Layout Options for Your Next Presentation / Document / Post

Do you draw a blank when looking at a blank screen for a post, a presentation, or a document? When it comes time to lay out your content, is it hard to know what to do?

True story, most designers often get this sense of dread as well! But, they have 2 tricks at their disposal that you can use.

First: Inspiration

Designers know that somebody has created a great looking example of what you need to put together before, so they seek it out on Dribbble, Behance, or Pinterest, and draw on that inspiration for their own layout.

Second: A Design Quiver!

What I refer to is a knowledge of some tried and true layouts that you can return to again and again, so that first pieces placed on a post or document isn't an unknown.

I've laid out 4 common ones too consider:

  1. Full Screen - simply have an image take up the entire background of your work (many posts here on Instagram do this)
  2. Left / Right Half or Third - have an image or color take up the left or right side, you title or content on the other side
  3. Top / Bottom Half or Third - Exact same idea as 2, but up and down rather than side to side
  4. Contained - A bit more modern, have the photo not touch any edges, and balance it by having your content beside it.

As you can see, with some inspiration and a few good designs in the bank, creating great looking work need not be complicated.
